NPCs: Rules of Engagement

Interacting with NPCs aboard the Titanic can lead to engaging conversations, quests, gifts, and even friendships. To ensure you have the best experience when communicating with them, follow this step-by-step guide on the rules of engagement:

1. Begin with a simple "hello": Approach the NPC and greet them in the local chat by typing "hello" or another friendly greeting. This will usually prompt the NPC to give you a notecard containing possible phrases you may use to initiate further conversation and receive specific responses.

2. Continue the conversation: Keep talking with the NPC using the suggested phrases from the notecard or try asking questions of your own. As you engage with the NPC, they may eventually offer you a quest or a gift.

3. Befriend the NPCs: Building a rapport with NPCs can lead to unique interactions and opportunities. Be friendly and engage in conversations to foster these connections.

4. Find NPCs in different locations: NPCs are not static – they may travel around the ship freely. Keep an eye out for familiar faces in new places and strike up a conversation when you encounter them.

5. Be polite and respectful: Swearing or being rude to an NPC will result in a hostile response. Always maintain a respectful tone and be polite when interacting with NPCs.

6. Importance of politeness: Being courteous and considerate when engaging with NPCs will not only enhance your experience but also help create a pleasant atmosphere for everyone aboard the Titanic.

Here we can see a conversation initiated with the Butler, a simple Hello receives the Butler Backstory notecard. If you say anything to the Butler though, or any NPC for that matter, you'll receive the Prompts notecard. Remember that whilst handy, the prompts are not strictly needed.
